It can be physically demanding: forest terrain, steep slopes, damp and muddy conditions. But pace is slow, guides help; trek duration varies depending on gorilla movement.

Gorilla and chimp permits are limited and in high demand. Booking 3-6 months ahead (or more in peak season) is strongly recommended.

Waterproof hiking boots, long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, rain jacket, gloves, insect repellent, binoculars, camera, layers, and head torch.

Some risk (malaria, tropical diseases) depending on region; ensure vaccinations, bring prophylaxis if recommended. Guides maintain safety protocols.

Lodges near Kibale and Bwindi offer good comfort: private bathrooms, hot showers (though sometimes limited), and cozy settings. But expect more rustic/natural settings than luxury safari camps.

Bwindi sits at an altitude (~1,500-2,400 meters), so mornings/evenings may be cool; rainfall is possible. Pack layers.
